Centre For Culture & Wellbeing

A few words about us

At Play Marimba Centre for Culture & Wellbeing, we believe that music has the power to bring people together, strengthen communities and improve wellbeing.

We use marimba music as a tool for connection, participation and cultural engagement, creating experiences that enrich lives across schools, healthcare settings, churches, community organisations and public spaces.

Our work goes beyond performance.

We create opportunities for people to learn, connect, participate and celebrate culture through meaningful musical experiences that foster belonging and joy.

Music should not only be heard, it should be expeienced together

Our Story

Play Marimba was founded on a simple belief:

Music should not only be heard, it should be experienced together.

Inspired by the vibrant musical traditions of Zimbabwe and the wider African continent, our founder experienced the joy of marimba through schools programmes. His love for the authentic sound grew with him, culminating in Play Marimba.

We set out to create opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the joy, energy and community spirit that marimba music brings.

What began as a passion for sharing African music has grown into a movement that supports wellbeing, cultural understanding and community connection across the United Kingdom.

Today, we work with schools, care homes, churches, community groups, businesses and public organisations to create experiences that leave lasting positive impacts.

Play Marimba Team

To become a leading centre for culture and wellbeing, enriching lives through music, education and community engagement.

We envision communities where people feel connected, valued and inspired through meaningful cultural experiences.

Bringing joy, wellbeing and cultural connection through African marimba music.

Everything we do is designed to help people experience the benefits of participation, creativity and shared cultural experiences.

The wellbeing and safety of participants is central to our work.

We are committed to maintaining high standards of safeguarding and professional conduct across all programmes.

Our team members hold Enhanced DBS checks where required and operate in accordance with safeguarding best practices when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Our founder has completed training in Safeguarding with charity, Thirtyone Eight, Music and Dementia with University of Strathclyde, supporting our commitment to delivering person-centred and inclusive experiences for older adults.

Culture helps people understand who they are, where they come from and how they connect with others.

In an increasingly divided and isolated world, cultural experiences create opportunities for people to build relationships, celebrate diversity and discover common ground.

We believe culture is not a luxury, it is essential to wellbeing, identity and thriving communities.

Through African marimba music, we create welcoming spaces where people can experience culture, connection and joy together.
